For many of us, social media has become a part of our daily lives. The first website you might go to upon opening your browser is Facebook. Maybe you’re following all your favorite celebs on Twitter. Completely natural in this day & age.

But what about your wedding day? Is there a place for social media then? Some are skeptical. After all, shouldn’t a wedding be between the happy couple & their select guests — not their entire friends list? For others, including recent bride Lauren Barnes, it’s a must. “Nothing’s official — until it’s Facebook official!” Ward told Leanne Italie for an AP story on social media weddings.

If the answer is also ‘yes’ for you, there are many ways to incorporate social networking into your wedding:

Post a video of your unique proposal or wedding dance to YouTube. Maybe it will go viral!
Use a mobile app to do your planning & find vendors.
Feature a “guest of the week” on your wedding blog. Or, just have a wedding blog!
Send out video save-the-dates.
Include scannable “QR” bar codes on your invitations — they can take guests to the wedding website or add the ceremony to a guests’ calendar.
Do your gift registrations online.
Create interactive seating charts so table mates can chat online ahead of time.
Use a private Facebook group to communicate with your bridal party.
Stream your ceremony and/or reception through sites such as idostream.com.
Use a unique hash tag to tweet live events on the big day.
Have a technology-themed cake — such as one with an embedded iPad that streams photos. Or get your groom an iPhone cake and personalize the app icons!

These are just a few ideas tech-savvy couples can use on their big day. You can go as far as streaming your wedding online for those who can’t attend — to as minimal as having a few online registries. The decision is all yours!
